WEST AFRICA FESTOONING SYSTEM

The telecommunication sector is steadily growing in Africa. The implementation of the SAT3/WASC/SAFE Submarine Cable System in 2001 gave the participating countries and their operators the real first alternative to Satellite communications in the Western Africa region. The growing demand for capacity in the region has resulted that this system is already being upgraded for the second time since its implementation in 2001. At the time the SAT3/WASC/SAFE System was in its development stages not all the Western Africa Countries had the means and or the finances to participate in the system.

As a result it has now become necessary to develop and implement a West Africa Festooning System (WAFS) that will interlink countries such as Equatorial Guinea, DRC, Gabon, Cameroon and Congo with each other and with the SAT3/WASC System. Together these systems will sustain the growing demand for international voice and data communications in the region for the future.
